Fulcher: Today I Voted to Safeguard the Integrity of Our Elections
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 9494, legislation to fund the federal government through March 2025 with the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act) attached.
“Today, I voted to safeguard the integrity of our elections and prevent a massive end-of-year spending spree—something Democrats would rather shut down the government over than support—as America goes through a guaranteed White House transition this November.
“The House has taken strides to go through the appropriations process in regular budget order, passing all twelve spending bills out of committee and five out of the Chamber. This progress has been stonewalled by a Democrat-controlled Senate whose leadership has failed to get a single appropriations bill cleared.
“This legislation lays the foundation for the next administration to rein in out-of-control bureaucratic spending while also protecting the integrity of our elections by ensuring only American citizens vote in U.S. elections.”
Bill Background:
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act) will:
-
Require an individual to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections; and;
-
Provide states with access to existing federal databases so they can clean up their voter registration rolls and remove noncitizens from the rolls.
