Fulcher: The Next Few Months Are Critical For America

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 1968, the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act of 2025.

“A costly and distractive government shutdown 50 days into Trump’s administration would be disastrous. That’s why, today, I voted to keep the lights on and give President Trump the uninterrupted running room he needs to implement his America first agenda while Congress works to deliver a reconciliation bill that includes historic spending reforms,” said Congressman Fulcher.

“Importantly, this stopgap freezes spending for six months—unlike Congress’s historical misuse of this legislative tool,” Congressman Fulcher added. “Instead, this bill ensures there is no increased cost to the taxpayer while allowing border patrol agents to continue their critical work in securing our homeland and averts a shutdown which would stop the important work being done in the Executive Branch right now to identify waste and abuse within our government. The next few months are critical for America. We have a real opportunity to address our nation’s catastrophic fiscal trajectory—let’s use it.”

Background

H.R. 1968:
  • Decreases total discretionary spending compared to last year;
  • Maintains government operations without increasing the spending of taxpayer dollars;
  • Upholds responsibilities to our nation’s veterans and ensures full funding for their healthcare services and benefits.
