WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Russ Fulcher took to the floor of the House of Representatives to congratulate Meridian students Caitlin Lanterman and Madison Collins from Mountain View High School. Caitlin and Madison were chosen as winners of C-SPAN’s StudentCam competition, an annual video documentary competition for middle and high students around the country.

Each year, participating students are instructed to produce short documentaries around a specific theme, and this year’s addressed the question, “What does it mean to be American?”

“On behalf of the First District of Idaho, I am proud to congratulate Caitlin and Madison for winning this competition of nearly 3,000 entries,” said Congressman Fulcher. The entire floor speech can be viewed here.

This year marked the 15th year that C-SPAN, the public service network which broadcasts federal government proceedings, has held the competition. A total of 2,923 video documentaries were submitted by 6,318 students.

"Over the last 15 years, we've had the privilege of hearing viewpoints on a wide variety of issues directly from young filmmakers across the country," said C-SPAN's Manager of Education Relations Craig McAndrew. "This year, students clearly stepped up their approach to deliver thoughtful and diverse responses to our competition theme, which reflect enormous time and effort put into the research and construction of their documentaries."
