Cancer patients, families, and state policymakers will light up the steps at the Idaho Capitol with Lights of Hope bags.

On Saturday, Lights of Hope bags will stay lit overnight on the steps, spelling the word "HOPE."

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) holds the event every year, but this year is special to Boise.

The rally will honor Dr. Greg Hampikian, a local Boise State University cancer researcher who has helped discover two new cancer-killing drugs that are highly effective at eliminating tumors.

Dr. Hampikian will be adding his Lights of Hope bag to the nearly 200 bags expected to light up the Capitol along with similar bags from the offices of Sen. Mike Crapo, Sen. Jim Risch, Congressman Russ Fulcher, and Congressman Mike Simpson.
