WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Fulcher has announced his co-sponsorship of Rep. Gary Palmer’s resolution to condemn governments that allow for or take part in the persecution of Christians and other faiths.

The Resolution also calls upon the State Department to “prioritize freedom of conscience and religion” in U.S. foreign policy formulation.

“Members of the Christian faith are being attacked and persecuted by governments and groups around the world-- that is wrong,” said Congressman Russ Fulcher. “I proudly voted on bipartisan legislation to condemn racism and attacks on religious liberty, including anti-Christian, anti-Semitism, and anti-Islamic language. Governments and non-state actors must know that the United States will not tolerate the killing of Christians for practicing their faith.”

Specifically, the House Resolution does the following:

  • Condemns the persecution of members of any faith
  • Calls for governments to recognize the right of Christians to practice their faith without fear of persecution
  • Calls on the State Department to prioritize religious freedom in foreign policy considerations

According to the Pew Research Center, Christians remain the most persecuted religious group in the world. For Example, attacks on Christians by the terrorist group Boko Haram in Nigeria, the wrongful imprisonment of American Pastor Andrew Brunson in Turkey, the mass killing of Christians and Yazidis in Northern Iraq and Syria by ISIS, and more recently the horrific Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka and Beijing’s continued crackdown on local churches.
