Fulcher Honors Major General Garshak’s Three Decades of Service, Welcomes Idaho’s Next Adjutant General

WASHINGTON, D.C. This week, U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher joined the Idaho Congressional Delegation in submitting a Congressional Record honoring Major General Michael J. Garshak on his retirement from the National Guard and his distinguished service as the Adjutant General of Idaho.

“For almost four decades, Major General Garshak has demonstrated unwavering commitment to our nation and the state of Idaho,” said Congressman Fulcher. “From his early days as an Apache helicopter platoon leader to his role as the adjutant general, Major General Garshak’s leadership has left a profound impact on countless servicemembers. I join many in expressing my gratitude for his exemplary service and wish him a blessed, fulfilling retirement. It is well deserved.”

Upon Major General Garshak’s retirement, Idaho Governor Brad Little selected Brigadier General Tim Donnellan, a combat veteran A-10 pilot, to become Idaho’s 26th adjutant general.

“The Idaho Military Division is in strong hands with Brigadier General Tim Donnellan,” Congressman Fulcher added. “His military career has demonstrated his dedication to excellence and showcased his leadership capability—whether in an A-10 or on the ground. I look forward to continuing my collaboration with Governor Little, and the entire Idaho Congressional Delegation, to support the critical missions at Gowen Field and the Idaho National Guard.”

Major General Garshak’s military service started in 1987 when he was commissioned as an Aviation Officer through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps. During his active duty service, Major General Garshak served as an Apache attack helicopter platoon leader in Desert Shield/Desert Storm. In 1993, he joined the Idaho National Guard and served with the 1-183rd Aviation Regiment. Then, in 2017, he was appointed the Adjutant General of Idaho by Governor Butch Otter and continued his service under Governor Brad Little.

Brigadier General Timothy J. Donnellan joined the U.S. Air Force in 1992 and served as a security forces officer and an instructor pilot. In 2002, Brigadier General Donnellan became a member of the Idaho National Guard and currently serves as the commander of the Idaho Air National Guard and assistant adjutant general-Air.
