WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Russ Fulcher (Idaho-01) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5371, the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2026.
“For over 40 days, Senate Democrats utilized the destruction of a federal government shutdown to politically grandstand and demand $1.5 trillion in new spending, a staggering request for a nation $38 trillion in debt.
“Regardless of the pain the shutdown inflicted on families, Veterans, and our troops, the Senate minority persisted in holding the government hostage unless they received taxpayer-funded healthcare for noncitizens and the repeal of much-needed reforms enacted through H.R. 1—reforms that restored accountability in our federal healthcare programs and, as confirmed by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), are projected to lower premiums for eligible Americans.
“Thankfully, their politically motivated tactics proved unsuccessful. Tonight’s funding extension maintains the original position I supported over a month ago—to keep the government working for the American People and to cut wasteful Washington spending by returning Congress to regular order.”
